Silver, gold or gold-plated jewellery: how to choose what suits you best

The jewellery collection in my webshop consists exclusively of "fine jewelry": jewelry made of real silver and gold. This is because I'm allergic to other materials and therefore can't wear anything except silver and gold. Moreover, I simply find jewelry made of these precious metals very beautiful and durable. But there are many more reasons to choose these materials. And then there's the choice of silver, gold, or gold-plated jewelry. That's why, in this blog post, I'll explain why you should choose silver, gold, or gold-plated jewelry and what to consider when making your choice.

When choosing jewelry, the question often arises: silver, gold, or gold-plated? All three materials have their own charm and advantages.

Benefits of silver jewelry

  1. Affordable and stylish
Silver is generally more affordable than gold, making it an accessible choice for many jewelry lovers.
  2. Versatile to combine
Its neutral color makes silver suitable for almost any outfit and style. It creates a modern and elegant look.
  3. Hypoallergenic
Sterling silver (925 silver) is a safe choice for people with sensitive skin.
  4. Timeless and durable
With proper care, silver jewelry will remain beautiful for years. Regular polishing prevents oxidation.

Benefits of gold jewelry

  1. Luxury and exclusivity
Gold exudes luxury and is considered an investment. The higher the carat, the purer the gold.
  2. Durable and easy to maintain
Gold does not oxidize and retains its shine, making it less maintenance-friendly than silver.
  3. Available in different shades
In addition to yellow gold, there is also white gold and rose gold, so there is a suitable option for every taste and skin tone.
  4. Good for sensitive skin
Pure gold is hypoallergenic, making it an ideal choice for people with allergies.

Benefits of Gold Plated Jewelry

  1. Affordable with a luxurious look
Gold-plated jewelry is made from a base material (in my webshop, that's silver) with a layer of gold. This gives you the luxurious look of gold at a more affordable price.
  2. Available in different thicknesses
The thickness of the gold plating varies, which affects its durability. Thicker plating (such as gold-filled) lasts longer.
  3. Trendy and versatile
Gold-plated jewelry often follows the latest trends and is easy to combine with both silver and gold.
  4. Good option for sensitive skin
If the base material is silver, gold-plated jewelry is also suitable for people with sensitive skin.

How do you make the right choice?

  • Budget : Silver and gold plated are more budget-friendly, while gold is an investment.
  • Durability : Gold lasts the longest, followed by silver. Gold-plated jewelry can lose its gold plating over time.

Whether you choose silver, gold, or gold-plated jewelry, all materials have their own charm. I believe there's a good occasion for every option, and that's why I have all three in my own jewelry collection . 😊 Choose what suits you best . ✨

Beijinhos,

Alice
